from the ground up

Wheat Plant

A fourth generation farmer and a veteran of Alberta’s oilfield, Ian Scott is no stranger to hard work. When he met Marnie two decades ago, the two discovered they shared that work ethic, a passion for the land, and a belief that family is the most important thing you can have.

Their farm sits on 480 acres of prime land in the heart of Alberta, surrounded by neighbours who had already begun exploring niche markets like asparagus, timothy hay, potatoes, carrots and berries.

In the summer of 2014, the Scotts visited a distillery in Winlaw, BC and saw firsthand how a distillery can work in tandem with a small farm to make it more viable. When Albertan laws relaxed, allowing more companies to produce spirits, the Scotts saw an opportunity.

With their family farm, a deep knowledge of grain growing, and Ian’s field experience operating specialized equipment, the pair were uniquely qualified to build and operate a distillery of their own. Today, with the silver devil spirits Distillery up and running, the Scott's have big plans for their fledgling brand and high hopes for future generations running the family business.
